Frequently Asked Questions

Will jet washing damage my surface?

The equipment is especially designed get under the dirt with harming the surface, so the jet washing process will not damage your surfaces. However, it may highlight any areas of weakness, such as the pointing between flags. to  If your pointing is in poor condition it may become dislodged, but it would have been easily dislodged over time anyway. If this is the case the pointing would have required repair regardless of whether your surfaced was cleaned or not. At the end of the day, you could have a dirty surface with poor pointing…or a clean surface with poor pointing.

What is the dirt that is coming off my surface?

Unless you have any stains from a contaminant, such as oil or grease, everything that comes off your surface will be completely natural. As a result it can be brushed up and deposited on your soil, usually behind a bush. I will ask if this is OK prior to doing so, and if you would prefer I took the waste materials with me I will happily do so.  You will be surprised when you see how much dirt actually comes off your surface! Take a look at my photos to see previous jobs!

Do I need an outside tap? How much water will you use?

Jet washing your surface obviously requires a water source, and given the levels of water required it would be impossible to complete a job without using water from a tap. Those with water meters will be naturally concerned about the costs of this. However, according to United Utilities, 1 litre of water costs much less than a penny, and one cubic meter of water (equal to 1000 litres) costs less than £3.

Do you brush sand into the joints of my block paving once it is cleaned? Why is this important?

Once your block paving is clean and completely dry I will come back and brush kiln dried sand into the joints. This is a vital part of the process as the sand is a crucial component in maintaining the structure of your block paving. The sand binds the paving together and helps inhibit weed growth in the joints. Not completing this task would leave your surface exposed to not just weeds but movement, meaning its structure is compromised and will not last long.

What are the benefits of sealing my surface

Sealing the surface provides a barrier to resist stains, increase the abrasion resistance of the surface, protects from the effects sunlight, maintains the structure of the joints of the paving and inhibits the growth of;  weeds; moss, algae, lichen and ants.

If my surface is sealed, does it still need cleaning?

Sealing the surface will improve its look and performance and mean it is easier to maintain, but it will stick require maintenance. Regular footfall and brushing twice a year will ensure the dirt and vegetation will not settle, and a sympathetic professional clean every year will keep your asset  looking its very best.

Do you remove stains from my surface, such as oil or rust?

Oil stains are a common blight of a beautiful surface and can be difficult to remove depending on the substances, volume and time stained. Due to this complete removal cannot be guaranteed. However using a special degreasing agent and my jet washing kit if the stain isn’t completely removed it will be substantially removed. Rust can be impossible to remove, how I will try to reduce the stain as much as I can.

What can I do to help maintain my surface?

In order to get the best out of your asset and improve its lifespan, regular maintenance is recommended. It could just be ensuring that the surface receives regular footfall, as this prevents dirt, algae, moss and lichens from developing. Brushing and weed killing the surface twice yearly should leave your surface looking well kept. This will ensure that the dirt, algae, moss and lichens cannot settle and any weeds are killed before significantly developing. Perhaps do this when you change your clocks, once in the Spring and once in the Autumn.

Ideally your surface should be professionally cleaned annually to ensure best performance, but no more than this.  Sealing the surface will improve its look and performance and mean it is easier to maintain, but it will stick require maintenance. Regular footfall and brushing twice a year will ensure the dirt and vegetation will not settle, and a sympathetic professional clean every year will keep your asset  looking its very best.
